PC Historical Society Learns About Cemetery Restoration

John C. Heider of Moticello Illinois is a cemetery restoration specialist. He gave his slide presentation on cemetery restoration at the spring program of the Putnam County Historical Society at the PC Agriculture Museum in Hennepin. John had recently completed the preservation and documentation of the Boyle Cemetery south of McNabb, and has begun work on the Raley Cemetery just south of the Friends Cemetery. John said "Sharing my knowledge of cemetery restoration with people is one of my enjoyable endeavors."

"It is amazing what these cemetery stones will tell you. They will tell you about family histories. They will tell you about a wife and a husband or of a husband with two wives, you may see a series of children over the years. I have learned a lot about cemeteries and how to restore the stones. I restored two or three before I went to a workshop done by professions in Indiana. That workshop opened up the sky for me," John said. He works closely with the Illinois State Board of Anthropology and Archeology.
