On Wednesday, December 14th, the Putnam County Third Graders went on a field trip to the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts and witnessed a live performance of Romona Quimby.  The students were able to attend this presentation due to the generosity of the Putnam County Educational Foundation.

This performance was based on a series of books by the Newbery Medal winning author, Beverly Cleary.  The students were delighted by the characters, especially Ramona and her friend Howie.  They leaned of the trials of life for Ramona as a third grade student.  Many of Life’s lessons were demonstrated with a positive and humorous attitude.

After the performance, the students were able to have their lunch in one of the ballrooms.  They were amazed by the spiral staircase, the chandeliers, and the beauty of the historic building.  Finally, everyone got back to the bus and headed back to Hennepin discussing what a wonderful experience it was for all.

Thanks to the Putnam County Educational Foundation, the students’ education was enriched in many of the Fine Arts and Language Arts learning Standards in a real hands-on and rewarding way.
