Hennepin Fire Department Makes and Gives Away Cookies for Christmas
For the third year, Hennepin Fire Department has made and given away Christmas cookies to the residents of Hennepin.
Firefighter Matthew Dean, who used to help his mom and grandma bake cookies to give away, came up with the idea and asked for permission to use the fire station kitchen that first year.
A few firemen helped Dean with the baking and delivery of the cookies that year. From there, the effort grew. This year, more than 1,800 cookies were baked, boxed and delivered by Hennepin Fire Department.
To help with the task, firefighters were asked to donate five dozen cookies, and another donation of cookies came in from the Hennepin United Methodist Church.
On Sunday, a group of firemen went to the station for baking and boxing, as 1,000 cookies were still needed for delivery that day.
