Putnam County Pulls Together to Help Those Less Fortunate
Every year, the Putnam County Food Pantry and Toys in the Pantry strive to help county residents who need some extra assistance to experience a happy holiday.
And this year, once again, organizations, schools, businesses and individuals have generously given money, items and time to make the undertaking a success.
“We’re always totally overwhelmed by the support shown by the community,” food pantry vice president Judy Hopkins said. “It’s very heart-warming.”
This year, the food pantry has 155 families who have requested baskets, Hopkins said. In all, the baskets will help 481 people, which includes 199 children, she said.
That represents an increase from last year when 133 baskets were requested. In fact, in the 25 years the food pantry has distributed baskets, this is “absolutely” the biggest need that they’ve seen, Hopkins said.
