Putnam County EMS Crew Members Receive Awards
Four awards were presented at the Putnam County Emergency Medical Services annual appreciation dinner on Jan. 26 at the fire and ambulance building in McNabb.
Three of the awards were connected with the Dec. 30, 2011, rescue of a local Putnam County resident Katlyn Casford.
The Trauma Save of the Year award was given to paramedic Vernon Gadd, EMT-B Gregg Carr, and EMT-I Kim Goodbred. The plaque inscription said, “For exemplary use of your medical knowledge and skills, for your leadership and teamwork in utilizing all available resources and personnel. This was instrumental in life-saving extrication, assessment and treatment of Katlyn Casford.”
All of the following departments worked well together in this rescue — PCEMS, Hennepin Fire Department, Granville Fire Department and the Putnam County Sheriff’s department, along with the Putnam County 911 dispatchers, according to a press release from PCEMS.
PCEMS director Andy Jackson said the outcome from this call was “wonderful.”
The fourth award of the evening was a comical one. Each year, PCEMS has an award called the “Refusal King.” This award is for the EMT on staff who has the most refusals from patients to go to the hospital. This year, Mark Hameister, EMT-P, won the award.
