Sizable Donations to Make Hennepin's Fireworks Best Yet

Hennepin’s Fourth of July fireworks display will be bigger than ever, thanks to two sizable donations.

The donations came from Marquis Energy, which is sponsoring the grand finale, and the Grant family, in memory of Jack Grant. Grant, a former Hennepin mayor, had shot the fireworks show in Hennepin for over 20 years.

“When he was shooting, we always knew the shoot would be successful,” Hennepin mayor Kevin Coleman said. “He always produced a great show.”

Grant passed away in December 2012, and his father, which includes his wife, Georgia, a son, Michael, a daughter, Jackie, and five grandchildren, decided to make a donation that would honor Jack’s love of fireworks and Hennepin.

Coleman said the generous donations from the Grant family and Marquis Energy, as well as the $2,000 donated by the fundraising efforts of the Hennepin Fourth of July committee, will make this year’s show, set for July 4, with a rain day of July 5, extra special.

“I think this year’s show will be phenomenal,” he said.

He urges those watching the fireworks this year to not leave after the grand finale — because of the donation from the Grant family, there will be more fireworks after the grand finale.
