Rotary Club Will Sponsor Post-Prom Event

The Putnam County Rotary Club is preparing once again to sponsor its post-prom event, “Afterglow,” for students and their guests attending the PCHS prom on Saturday, April 30. The event has become a tradition at PCHS and is seen as an extension of the evening’s festivities. It will be hosted at the Putnam County Primary School gym.

With the support of community sponsors and contributors, the Putnam County Rotary Club has been able to offer students a safe, substance-free and enjoyable alternative to continue their prom night experience. Too often, in communities where such activities are not made available, students can gravitate towards unhealthy, unsafe and illegal post-prom road trips, parties or private activities. The Rotary Club hopes to continue to provide a safe and fun alternative so students’ prom night experience will be one they fondly remember.

Over the past 35 years, the event has taken on many forms. For the past several, and at the students’ request, the event has provided a carnival experience. This will continue this year and will feature fun games and a mock casino. The students will use play money and be able to use their winnings in an auction for valuable prizes at the end of the night. This carnival idea has been a great success and has resulted in increased participation and an enjoyable experience for everyone attending. In 2015, 125 students attended Afterglow and winners received items such as a Samsung tablet, Beats headphones, a Keurig, gift cards, a dorm refrigerator and more.

The Putnam County Rotary Club is once again calling upon businesses, villages, townships, churches, parents, citizens and local organizations to help support the Afterglow project with donations. The generosity of those who donate as an Afterglow supporter will be made known to the students and the community.
