More Road Funds, More Costs Anticipated in 2020
The street committee will be getting together soon to determine what streets to repair around the village of Hennepin.
Though there will be more money coming in from the state fuel tax increase, Mayor Kevin Coleman said better funding will mean more road work in 2020. More road work is likely to mean greater demand and higher prices for asphalt and paving materials, as well as high demand for construction crews.
For months the Hennepin Village Board has been working with owners or working through legal channels to get a couple of properties fixed up or torn down. Coleman said a couple of contractors have inquired about acquiring and fixing up a house in the 500 block of Sycamore Street in order to give themselves some winter work. He expressed a sense of urgency for the village to seek bids soon before the contractors are no longer interested.
