Hennepin Township is a governmental body that provides roads and road maintenance for people in the rural area surrounding the village of Hennepin. The Township can and has provided relief for people that are having trouble paying heating bills or rent payments.
The current officers of the township are listed below. All positions are elected for four year terms.
The Township has meetings every month on the second Wednesday at 7:00 PM at the Hennepin Village Hall. One other meeting that takes place is the Annual Town Meeting which is open to any registered voter living in the Township. At this meeting the voters have control of the proceedings. The annual meeting is always held the second Tuesday of April at 6:00 PM. All meetings are open to the public.

Putnam County Public Library District serves all residents within the borders of Putnam County. The library operates with a Headquarters site in Hennepin and branch sites in the villages of Granville, McNabb, Standard, Putnam, and Magnolia. The library is open 90 staggered hours each week to best serve the community. The collection is made up of multi-format materials to serve both young and old. All library sites offer public internet access, books on CD, entertainment DVD selections, and Blind and Physically handicapped services. The district library is a member of the Prairie Area Library System and the Prairie Cat online catalog. Patrons may access the catalog in all libraries or from their own homes. The library staff at all sites will assist patrons in searching the online catalog to secure selected materials not owned by the library district.

Organizations
The residents of the Village of Hennepin have a very strong sense of community and volunteerism whether it be village government, emergency services, recreational and youth programs, charitable activities, community beautification and other volunteer activities.
In 1999 Hennepin was awarded a Governor's Hometown Award for volunteerism.

Hennepin has an active American Legion. The charter name is Putnam County Seat Post 1044 American Legion, and the common name is Hennepin American Legion.
The commander at the present time is David Mallery. We are active on Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Poppy Day, and at funerals of veterans. The proceeds from Poppy Day go to the LaSalle Veterans Home for veteran's activities.
The organization meets the second Thursday of every month except January and February. The meeting time is 7:00 PM at the Hennepin United Methodist Church. Any veteran that meets the eligibility criteria is welcome to join.

The Illinois Valley Radio Assocation is a group of amateur radio operators from the Illinois Valley. The common name is Ham Radio Operator. The members are interested in promoting amateur radio in the area and having fun. The club is always available in case of emergency. The club has a picnic in the summer and an after-Christmas dinner usually in January. We setup for an event called Field Day, always held the last full weekend in June. This event is to test our ability to operate from a location where there may be no electricity or other amenities.
We meet the last Tuesday of every even-numbered month at 7:00 PM at the Hennepin Village Hall.
Our club is open to anyone that is a licensed radio operator or anyone interested in becoming licensed. The club members will tutor anyone in learning about Ham Radio and setup or find a test location.
The current president is Dan DeMattia, vice president is Rich Grimsaw, and secretary/treasurer is Tom Chromzack.
